FAIRBANK - The Wapsie Valley School District has held several fundraisers to assist local tornado victims.

On Wednesday, the junior/senior student body collected debris, helping relocate residents that were affected by the tornado, and doing whatever needed to be done for area residents. The football team also spent the day in Parkersburg collecting debris at the local golf course.

The Wapsie Valley FFA Chapter has provided wagons at the Readlyn Elementary, Fairbank Elementary and the high school pop cans to help the local tornado victims. Donations of cans will be accepted until Wednesday.

On Thursday, the cans will be taken to Dewar Recycling Center. Proceeds will go to the Red Cross designated for the local tornado victims.

In addition, there has been a relief fund set up at the Readlyn Savings Bank and the Northeast Security Bank in Fairbank until June 11. On June 12, the money will be sent to the Red Cross to assist tornado victims.

The junior/senior high school students are also conducting a coin war until Tuesday. Classes compete against each other with the top class that turns in the most money receiving free vanilla malts on Tuesday.

The Fairbank Elementary students are conducting their annual walk-a-thon this week. This year, they will be allocating their proceeds to the tornado victims. If you would like to pledge money and have not been contacted, contact the school at (319) 635-2071.
