Historical society to hold annual meeting in Waverly

WAVERLY -- The Bremer County Historical Society will hold its annual meeting today.

Following a short business meeting at 7 p.m., John Myers will present information about the history of U.S. railroads. Myers is director of campus security and safety at Wartburg College.

The meeting will be at the Waverly Public Library. Guests can view historical displays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and organizers encourage those who attend to bring historic and antique railroad items.

Those interested in becoming members or renewing membership can sign up prior to the meeting. Annual membership costs $5 for individuals and $10 for a family. A lifetime membership costs $50.

The Waverly House Museum, 402 W. Bremer Ave., is open daily through Oct. 31. Exceptions include legal holidays, Mother's Day and Father's Day.

Hours are 1:30 to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for children less than 14 years old. Admission is free for members of the Bremer County Historical Society.

The Waverly House Museum, which served as a stagecoach stop hotel from 1864 to 1865, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
