Wartburg plans full homecoming schedule to greet alumni

WAVERLY- Homecoming at Wartburg College will feature a four-day celebration and follow this year's theme Nothin' but Knights.

Many of the events are free and open to the community, though a few require a fee or advance tickets. For information, call the Alumni and Parent Programs Office at (319) 352-8491, e-mail alumni@wartburg.edu or go online at www.wartburg.edu/alumni/homecoming.html.

The Wartburg Bookstore in the Saemann Student Center will host a book-signing session from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Saturday inside the student center's northwest entrance. The authors will be English professor Paul Hedeen, "The Knowledge Tree;" the Rev. Dr. Fred Strickert, "Rachel Weeping;" Karen Thalacker, Class of 1988, "Knitting with Gigi;" K.D. Sundquist, Class of 2000, "Oh My Goodness Gracious Me;" and Joy Newcom, Class of 1986, "Involuntary Joy."

The store will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday; from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

An art exhibit will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday in the Bachmann Fine Arts Center. Admission is free.

Thursday, Oct. 18

8 p.m., Kastle Kapers variety show, Neumann Auditorium, followed by coronation. Tickets required and available at the door.

10 p.m., pep rally, Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center. Wing feed will follow at Joe's Knight Hawk, 1002 W. Bremer Ave.

Friday, Oct. 19

10 a.m., alumni best-shot golf tournament, Waverly Golf and Country Club. Registration and fee required.

10:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Business Career Directions and Connections alumni panels, Whitehouse Business Center

3 and 4 p.m., campus tours, Admissions Office, Whitehouse Business Center

3 to 9 p.m., alumni registration, Information Center, student center

3:30 p.m., guided tours, wellness center

3:50 p.m., open rehearsal, Symphonic Band, Bluedorn Instrumental Music Hall, Bachman Fine Arts Center

4:50 p.m., open rehearsal, wind ensemble, Bluedorn Instrumental Music Hall

9 a.m., campus tours, Admissions Office, Whitehouse Business Center

9 a.m., guided tours, wellness center
