WAVERLY - The first-degree murder trial of a 26-year-old Sumner resident has been delayed again.

Lawrence Hamby is accused of killing Paul McKinney, 52, of Sumner, at McKinney's home in January 2006.

Law enforcement officials arrested Hamby in April 2007 at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison. He was being held for a probation violation and was arrested on the day he was scheduled to be released.

Hamby was friends with Paul McKinney's son, Nathan, and early in the investigation authorities considered Hamby a material witness. Nathan McKinney also was held as a material witness for a period of time.

Hamby's attorneys requested the continuation Monday during a hearing. No new trial date has been set.
