DENVER - Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucus is a major event in national politics, and a pair of Republicans in Bremer County believe participation by as many Iowans as possible is important.
Toward that end, Bob Brunkhorst of Waverly and Austin Lorenzen of Denver are organizing caucus introduction meetings in three communities.
" … For first-time participants, attending your local caucus can sometimes be intimidating and make people a bit nervous," Brunkhorst wrote in announcing the opportunities.
While caucuses may seem complicated or overwhelming, they really aren't and shouldn't keep people at home, he added.
The introduction meetings will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the Denver Public Library; at 11 a.m. in the Readlyn Public Library; and at 1 p.m. in the Sumner Public Library.
Brunkhorst said they will go through the process in an easy to understand format, discuss the differences between the Republican and Democrat caucuses and answer questions. He expects the sessions will take about 30 minutes.
Brunkhorst retired after 14 years as a state senator representing District 9. Lorenzen earlier this year announce plans to seek election in Iowa House District 18.
