HAMPTON -- The Franklin County Fair is gearing up for its 148th run.

The five-day event will be July 18-22 on the fairgrounds west of Hampton and likely will attract thousands. Last year, officials estimate more than 50,000 people attended, and with a strong grandstand lineup fair board member hope to break that record.

Attractions begin next Wednesday with the Barnes PRCA Rodeo.

For the first time the fair will feature three nights of music.

The Marshall Tucker Band, a southern rock group, will perform July 19, and country music singer Terri Clark will headline July 20. Country music's Trent Tomlinson and Danielle Peck will take the stage July 21, followed the next night by figure 8 racing.

Clark has sold more than 4 million albums and has nearly a dozen Top 10 hits. She first hit the charts in 1995 with "Better Things to Do." Other of Clark's songs also soared: "I Just Wanna Be Mad," "You're Easy on the Eyes," "When Boy Meets Girl," "I Wanna Do It All," "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" and "Girls Lie Too."

The Marshall Tucker Band has seven gold albums and three platinum albums, including the million-selling Carolina Dreams with its top single "Heard it in a Love Song" in 1977. Tomlinson had a recent hit with "One Wing in the Fire." Peck is a singer and songwriter and contributed eight of 11 songs on her self-titled debut album.

The fair offers a pay-one-price pass that admits holders to all five grandstand shows. Franklin County 4-H Club members are selling the passes through Thursday and the tickets also are available at the fair office. Cost is $22. The price increases after Thursday and then through the fair to $28.

Single tickets are $15 for the rodeo and figure 8 race, and $25 for any concert. Children 5 and under are admitted free.

For information, call the fair office at (641) 456-2049.

The fair also offers free admission, free parking and free shuttle rides through the fairgrounds and parking lot.

A parade will step off at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The procession will form at 4 p.m. at the high school. No advance registration is required. Coronation of the 2007 fair queen will follow in the grandstand.

Franklin County Farm Bureau Day will be July 19, and the organization will grill and give away 1,500 hamburgers starting at noon. The following day will feature the Franklin County Convention and Visitors Bureau, which will host a Franklin County trivia game and prizes from 3 to 7 p.m.

McDonald's will sponsor July 21 and give away 1,000 burritos beginning at 11 a.m. Ronald McDonald will star in a show at 12:30 p.m.

Other free entertainment also will be available throughout the fair. One highlight will be a Minnesota Draft Horse Pulling Association event at 1 p.m. July 21. An antique and stock tractor pull will begin at 11 a.m. July 22.

Smith's Amusements also will offer a full midway with rides and games for all ages.

Grandpa's Farm, 40 acres west of the fairgrounds, will offer a historical look at farming practices around the turn of the century. Likewise, Pleasant Hill is a town from that era on the fairgrounds.

The fair will have campsites available, but space is limited. Call the fair office to make reservations.
