K-9 dies in Fayette County

Rex began service with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office inÊJanuary 10,Ê2005 and has served Fayette County faithfully up until his untimely death. Rex was certified in narcotics detection, tracking, and Officer protection. Rex was obtained and cared for using drug forfeiture money,Êdonated funds and monies raised at an annual fund raiser. Sheriff Fisher states that Rex has been an outstanding asset for the Fayette County Sheriff's Office and a useful public relations tool. He has performed dozens of public demonstrations in addition to his dedicated work on patrol.Ê Deputy Aeschliman stated that he has lost a trusted partner and friend and he will be greatly missed.ÊSheriff Fisher stated that he will make a decision at a later date as to the replacement ofÊthe canine.

WEST UNION - A K-9 deputy with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office has died.

Deputy Rex Vom Welzbachtal died Sept. 15 after a short illness.

The dog began service with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office Jan. 10, 2005, and served Fayette County up until his death. Rex was certified in narcotics detection, tracking, and officer protection.

He was obtained and cared for using drug forfeiture money, donated funds and monies raised at an annual fundraiser. He performed dozens of public demonstrations in addition to his dedicated work on patrol.

He was a partner to Deputy Kenneth Aeschliman. Sheriff Martin M. Fisher said he will make a decision at a later date as to the replacement of the canine.
