PROTIVIN - A 26-year-old woman was killed when she fell off a snowmobile.
Brandy Schilling of Protivin was riding along a trail about a quarter mile west of the town at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. She reportedly lost control of the sled, which overturned, according to the Howard County Sheriff's Department.
Schilling was thrown and struck a large hay bale. She was transported first to the Protivin Fire Station and later to the Regional Health Service Hospital in Cresco.
Schilling was pronounced dead by the Howard County medical examiner, according to the sheriff's office.
Information provided by the sheriff's office did not indicate whether Schilling was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
