FAYETTE - The City Council this week agreed the new bridge that will span the Volga River should honor a familiar benefactor.
"It wouldn't have been possible to construct the recreation trail and the bridge without the financial support from David Bolger," City Administrator Christie Dennis said.
Bolger, a businessman in Ridgewood, N.J., has given millions of dollars to the community over the years.
His first association with the city came in 1964, when he sent out a letter soliciting business for his investment banking company.
A portion of the asphalt trail is complete.
The section is from Klock's Island and travels under the Iowa Highway 93 and Iowa Highway 150 bridges, connecting the city park to the downtown area.
Work will begin this fall that will connect the city with Big Rock Country Club. It is that portion that includes placement of a bridge over the Volga River.
