ALLISON - Because a large number of Butler County citizens were displaced by a tornado in May and floods in June, the Butler County Auditor's Office is offering information to residents who intend to participate in the General Election on Nov. 4.
Those who moved to a new address that is a permanent change must complete a voter registration form and mail it to their county auditor's office. Because of expected turnout, officials recommend completing this step prior to the close of advance registration Oct. 25.
Those who moved but the new address is temporary do not have to complete a new registration form.
Voters who request an absentee ballot should read the form carefully. Residents must list the permanent address where they claim the right to vote. Space is also available to add a mailing address, which could be the temporary address or an alternative.
Those who receive absentee ballots must list the address where they claim the right to vote when completing the affidavit envelope. Ballots with temporary addresses listed on this envelope will be rejected.
For more information, call the auditor's office at 267-2670 or e-mail auditor@butlercoiowa.org.
