DECORAH - Luther College and the Decorah community will work together in March to fight hunger.

The third annual Empty Bowls event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 16 in the Center for the Arts on campus.

Part of a nationwide effort, Empty Bowls combines the talents of potters with the generosity of donors to raise awareness and money. Artists are creating 1,000 ceramic bowls and will serve a simple meal contributed by restaurants.

Participants will choose a bowl to use and to keep. In exchange, guests leave donations.

Volunteer potters are Peter Blodgett, Claire Butchkowski, Dawn Deines-Christensen, Nate and Halley Evans, Sue Halverson, Tim Langholz, George Lowe, Elisabeth Maurland, Karen Misseldine, Val Newman and Gunnar Schwarz.

Restaurants supplying the soup and bread are Dayton House, Ede's Gourmet and Takeaway, La Rana, Luther College Catering, Magpie Coffeehouse, Oneota Community Food Coop, T-Bocks Sports Bar and Grill, Mabe's, Hart's Tea and Tarts, and Rubaiyat.

Proceeds will be divided among local food pantries and world hunger assistance programs through Lutheran World Relief. Winneshiek County Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will provide supplemental funds.
