DES MOINES - The World Food Prize will honor U.S. Sens. Bob Dole and George McGovern for their international school-feeding program with a ceremony at the Iowa State Capitol today.
Their initiative, which began in 2000, is credited with providing meals for more than 22 million children in 41 countries.
The World Food Prize award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution in improving the world's food supply. Nobel Prize winner and Iowa native Norman Borlaug founded the World Food Prize.
Iowa Public Television will broadcast the ceremony live beginning at 7 p.m.
Following the ceremony, the Iowa Journal program at 8:30 p.m. will feature interviews with Dole and McGovern about their efforts in reducing world hunger.
Coverage will be broadcast again at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
