DES MOINES (AP) -- Representative Bruce Braley is urging U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez Tuesday to hurry the processing of $100 million in disaster relief funding.
The Iowa Democrat says that a $2.65 billion federal disaster recovery package, which has $52.6 million allocated to Iowa and surrounding states, could take up to two months to distribute.
In a letter to Gutierrez, Braley encouraged the Commerce Secretary to make the application process easier and speed the processing of disaster-relief fund requests.
Braley's letter on Tuesday follows a previous request for the $100 million, made in late July.
