CEDAR RAPIDS - An Oelwein man pleaded guilty Wednesday to transporting child pornography from Kosovo to Waterloo.
Jeremy Moore, 22, pleaded guilty to one count of interstate and foreign transportation of child pornography. A sentencing date has not yet been set. Moore remains in the custody of U.S. Marshals.
He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of at least five years in prison and up to 20 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
Court records state friends gave Moore's laptop computer to Waterloo police in the summer of 2007 after Moore bragged about having pornographic images on it.
"They stated that Moore told them that he had child pornography (on) his computer so that he could 'practice for when he was a police officer,'" court records state.
"Moore told them that he could track people down when they downloaded child pornography from him," records state.
There are no details on why Moore was in Kosovo.
At the plea hearing, Moore admitted that in December 2006 he knowingly transported visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit activity.
He downloaded the pictures onto a computer while he was in Kosovo and then transported them to Waterloo on a portable digital storage device.
As part of his plea, Moore will be required to register as a sex offender.
