WATERLOO - It's Jesus 2.0.

Two devout Waterloo Christians have pooled their faith and Web-design talent to build an online, nondenominational Christian community called Radical Christ Ministries (www.radicalchristministries.org).

Matthew Hundley launched Radical Christ online in 2002. Then last year he and friend Jason Weimer redesigned the site and expanded its content.

Radical Christ Ministries seeks to provide viewers with a virtual toolbox for developing a radical faith.

Hundley said their site is especially relevant today, with the buzz surrounding Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ." James Caviezel, who plays Jesus, commented in an interview that Christ was the most controversial person to ever walk the earth.

"And how to choose to follow Christ today is also very controversial," Hundley said. "The Radical Christ Web site that we're developing is about just that - Christ as a radical figure, and how those who follow Christ's teaching today are adapting to a radical lifestyle choice."

Radical Christ Ministries is an umbrella over four other Web sites.

RadicalChrist.org is the most developed. It is a Web 'zine with news and culture commentary from a Christian perspective. Submissions come from pastors, seminary students and lay people. Hundley and Weimer also write original pieces. Articles vary from a Christian perspective on "Magnolia" to a personal essay about converting from Baptist to Catholic.

GlobalGospelSounds.org features articles about Christian musicians from around the world. A store and radio station are forthcoming.

MissionsToday.org and BibleSmugglers.org are under development. The former will offer suggestions for Christians on mission trips; the latter will help provide Bibles to foreign countries.

All sites are linked from Radical Christ Ministries.

"If anything, I'd like people to not only find an article that would hit home to them, but open their mind and get them thinking about what is a radical faith," Weimer said. "How faith in Jesus is different than faith in Muhammad, or faith in another figure, or faith in yourself."

To view the content, Web surfers must sign up as a member, which is free and helps Hundley and Weimer track their audience.

The sites amass more than 100 hits a day. Radical Christ members and authors cover all denominations and come from various locations throughout the globe including, Bavaria, Canada, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Singapore, Belgium, South Africa, Australia, France and Portugal. They are about 60 percent male and 40 percent female.

"It's fun to see the different people reading the articles. It's really neat to see that John Smith over in England really liked the article about this," Weimer said. "It makes the world seem a little bit smaller."
