WATERLOO - Danny Jamieson calls his time on MTV's "The Real World: Austin" the three hardest months of his life.

"If I hadn't have met Mel, I would have absolutely regretted it," said the 24-year-old, referring to his fiancee and fellow castmate Melinda Stolp. "I had to deal with starting a new relationship, my mom passed away while I was on the show, and I had to have surgery in front of the cameras."

Nonetheless, or perhaps because of the challenges the he faced during the series' 16th season, students at Hawkeye Community College flocked to Jamieson Wednesday afternoon at an on-campus event hosted by Hawkeye Village Apartments. Fans posed for photographs, collected autographs, and asked for updates about Stolp.

For the record: The cutsie couple is still together, and plans to head down the aisle Aug. 2.

"People saw the start of our relationship, so they always want to see if we are still together," said Jamieson, who owns a real estate development and construction company in Boston. "It's all going very well … maybe kids in a few of years…the whole American Dream thing."

Jamieson was joined Wednesday by fellow MTV reality stars Matt McCoy, from "True Life," and Rashawn "Bam Bam" Davis, who appears on "Rob & Big." The trio was in town to promote Hawkeye Village's fall renewal leasing special. About 200 students stopped by the event, held in Tama Hall, to meet the celebs and munch on free snacks courtesy of local businesses.

"I'm here for Danny," announced "Real World" fan and respiratory therapy student Karissa Gerleman. The 18-year-old posed for a picture with the Jamieson and snagged an autograph.

"He's very attractive and has a nice personality," said the Clermont native. "I don't know him, but from watching the show and everything he just seems like a really nice guy."

Zach Lyons, a Hawkeye Village resident, stopped by to shake hands with "Bam Bam," a former college football player who now raps with "The Chunky Boys" and frequently appears on "Rob & Big."

The college student wore a show T-shirt. The program, now in its third season, follows the exploits of professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek and his best friend and body guard Christopher "Big Black" Boykin.

"They're just hilarious," said Lyons. "Everything they do is funny."

The 19-year-old hoped to get some face-time with "Bam Bam," and said he may ask the star for an autograph.

"It's just something fun to do," said Lyons, of Waterloo. "It's cool that we can get stuff like this out here."
