WATERLOO - Black Hawk County added three sirens to the outdoor early warning siren system. Sirens were recently installed at Black Hawk Park and Hickory Hills Park, and in the community of Dewar. These sirens, along with the sirens in cities and other populated areas in the county will be tested the first Wednesday of the month at 11 a.m.

The three sirens are used sirens donated to Black Hawk County by the city of Waterloo. Black Hawk County had the sirens removed from the city of Waterloo and relocated to the parks and to Dewar. Prior to removal of the used sirens, Waterloo installed new sirens with a greater sound range to replace those and other sirens in Waterloo. The used sirens provide an adequate sound range for the parks and Dewar and are a welcome addition where no outdoor warning previously existed.

"The outdoor sirens that have been added to the campgrounds at Hickory Hills Park and Black Hawk Park will give the park user warning of impending severe weather. This will allow the visitor time to implement their personal emergency plan," notesd Vern Fish, director of the Black Hawk County Conservation Board.
