CEDAR FALLS - Emily Pawlak has been hired as the new executive director at the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra.

Pawlak will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the symphony, including budget oversight and supervision of fund-raising, marketing, publicity, educational activities and orchestra operation. She begins her duties June 18.

She is replacing Susan Munnik, who is leaving the post due to family considerations. The search for a replacement began in March.

"We are excited to have Emily joining us," said Russell Curtis, WCFSO board president. "I want to express my appreciation to Susan for her excellent service during the past year and for her assistance and support during this transition period. Emily's experience and enthusiasm will enable the symphony to build on the foundation that Susan helped to create and to maintain the momentum achieved during the last season."

Most recently, Pawlak was director of conferences, event planning and the student center at Wartburg College in Waverly.

She described her new position as a "tremendous opportunity to be part of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony and the Cedar Valley. I am excited to collaborate with such a dynamic music director and board of directors and look forward to building on the great energy I see within the organization."

Pawlak earned her bachelor of music degree from the University of Northern Iowa.

Jason Weinberger is music director and conductor.
