BRECKENRIDGE, COLO. - A former Waterloo doctor who was injured in a ski accident near here has died.

Dr. Robert "Bob" Guthrie, of Silverthorne, Colo., died Friday at St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver, apparently from injuries suffered in a Feb. 11 ski accident.

He was 68.

Guthrie had a radiation oncology practice in Waterloo and became the medical director for the Covenant Cancer Treatment Center in the late 1980s.

He also became the first medical director for Cedar Valley Hospice after helping organize that program.

In the 1990s, Guthrie moved to Colorado, where he was an avid skier and biker. He was the lead guide for the Arapahoe Basin ski area's Over The Hill Gang and co-coordinator of the Summit Biking Group.

He was leading a group of expert skiers when he fell and suffered a brain injury, according to the Summit Daily News.
