MARSHALLTOWN (AP) - Authorities believe they may have found a gun used in a double homicide in Marshall County.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies discovered the weapon Sunday when they returned to the scene where two people were found shot to death in October.
Kyle Deemer of West Des Moines is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Jessica Deemer of Waukee and Bryce Mercer of West Des Moines. Their bodies were found Oct. 14 near a ditch along Iowa Highway 14.
Mercer is a native of Gladbrook and attended Wartburg College.
Marshall County Sheriff Ted Kamatchus said the area had been mowed, which helped deputies find the gun. The weapon was turned over to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
