WATERLOO - A new location at the RiverLoop Expo plaza meant new experiences for those attending My Waterloo Days festivities.

Saturday's flavors - warm temperature, plenty of food and a variety of entertainment - brought a large crowd into downtown Waterloo.

Although parking was a challenge for those who didn't live nearby, many ventured into the area to explore the Party on the Plaza-themed My Waterloo Days activities.

Michelle Clark and her children moved to Parkersburg a couple of years ago and didn't know what to expect.

"It's pretty neat," she said. "It's kind of like a small town but there's a lot more variety of prizes and games."

She said she and her children would be attending the Great White concert later in the evening.

Laura Skogman, of Cedar Falls, said she thought the Great White concert would have been fun but thought her children, Piper Boysen, 8, and Griffin Boysen, 5, would be too restless to attend.

For Jean Bennett of Waterloo, the My Waterloo Days festivities meant some first-time experiences.

Thursday marked her first time attending the People in the Park event in its traditional location at Lincoln Park. On Friday, she watched the fireworks illuminate the Waterloo skies.

"I was like a little kid looking up and wondering if the sparks were going to get me," she said. "It was fun."

On Saturday Bennett visited the carnival with her two grown children at the RiverLoop Expo.

"I didn't know they were going to get a carnival this big over here, but it's nice," she said.

Although Bennett said she had a great time, she suggested a "no pet" policy for the People in the Park and the RiverLoop Expo events.

More seating on the plaza would be nice, too, she said.

"Other than that, I enjoy coming down here," she said.

Saturday's My Waterloo Days schedule of things to do and see was complete with the Great White performance around 9:30 p.m.

The My Waterloo Days celebration ended Sunday with Dragon Boat races in the morning at George Wyth State Park and a Waterhawks ski show on Eagle Lake.
