WATERLOO - Mayor Tim Hurley this morning conveyed a simple message: Enough already.
He and Police Chief Tom Jennings said there have been 11 shootings in the city since the first of May.
"I'm frustrated, I'm irritated to no end, and I'm fed up," Hurley said.
Meanwhile, Jennings announced police are seeking the public's help in locating a suspect in last week's shooting that left three people with bullet wounds.
Jennings said officers are looking for Darius Caston, and plan to charge him with three counts of wilfull injury, going armed with intent and intimidation with a dangerous weapon in the shooting in the 900 block of West Third Street.
Jennings said Caston is believed to still be in the Waterloo area and that people know where he is. Anyone with information on him is asked to call police at (319) 291-4333, ext. 2.
Hurley said the 11 shootings in recent months are not random acts of violence, but incidents where the shooters and victims knew each other. He called on residents to help solve the crimes and end the violence.
"My greatest wish," he said, "is to make Waterloo an unwecolming place for this sort of activity … One of the things we all know is this is not the right picture … of Waterloo.
