WATERLOO -- A Waterloo couple has been arrested in connection with a sex abuse investigation involving a 9-year-old girl.

Waterloo police arrested Troy Joseph Oberle, 34, of 2308 Lafayette Road Dec. 5 for second-degree sexual abuse for allegedly having sexual contact with the girl.

Bond was set at $75,000, and he remains in jail.

His girlfriend, Jean Eilander, 32, was arrested Monday for felony child endangerment. She has been released pending trial.

Police allege Eilander knew about the abuse and allowed it to continue. Court records state Eilander found Oberle and the girl in bed together in July.

Police began their investigation in August, and the child was examined at the St. Luke's Child Protection Center in Cedar Rapids. Officials there found a penetration-type injury, court records state.
