WATERLOO - The driver of a car that crashed into a wall following a brief chase Thursday night has been arrested.

Waterloo police arrested James Brian Hoskins Jr., 30, of 620 Cordell St., for misdemeanor eluding, reckless driving, driving while suspended and traffic violations.

Patrol officers spotted Hoskins acting suspicious around a parked car and then attempted to pull him over after he drove off in the vehicle, which had a burned-out license plate light, according to the police report.

He didn't stop, and a short pursuit followed, the report states.

It ended when Hoskins lost control of the car, which struck a retaining wall at Bridges Senior Living on Washington Street, police said.

Paramedics with Waterloo Fire Rescue took Hoskins to Allen Hospital for minor injuries, and he was then taken to the Black Hawk County Jail.
