WATERLOO - The Waterloo Jaycees 29th annual Canoe Cedarloo will take place on Sept. 19 on the Cedar River.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at Gateway Park in Cedar Falls, and the race will begin at 10 a.m. Participants will race 7.5 miles down the Cedar River, ending at the former Waterloo Boat House location around 11 a.m.
Participants can race in either kayaks or canoes in the professional or recreational classes of the event. Several race categories are available for participants to choose from, and recreational racers can paddle at their own pace. Teams can also be formed to challenge another team to a Grudge Match.
Canoes and personal flotation devices will be available for rent to those who pre-register by Sept. 16.
In addition to the race, community members are encouraged to come out to the former Waterloo Boat House to watch racers cross the finish line, enjoy grilled food, outdoor games and activities.
The race was re-scheduled from June because the Cedar River was at or near flood stage. Sponsors include CrawDaddy Outdoors, KCRR, K&W Sausage & Meat Specialties, Panera Bakery, PepsiAmericas, Scheels All Sports Waterloo, and Starbucks.
