ORCHARD - An unidentified Orchard-area man was treated and released early Sunday after a fire at his residence.

Osage Fire Chief Kurt Angell said the fire, reported around 4:50 a.m., may have started in a basement crawl space. There was smoke and heat damage on the first floor and smoke damage throughout the farmhouse at 3280 U.S. Highway 218.

Directories list the address as that of Ken Heimendinger.

Angell said the occupant, awakened by smoke alarms, was transported to the hospital but returned to the scene.

The Red Cross was called to find the occupant a place to stay.

The fire is under investigation.

Floyd firefighters, the Osage Police Department, Mitchell County Emergency Management Coordinator Ray Huftalin, the Mitchell County Sheriff's Department and Osage Ambulance assisted at the scene.
