DES MOINES (AP) - Federal immigration agents arrested a suspected illegal immigrant Tuesday at an embattled meatpacking plant in Postville.
Tim Counts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said agents arrested one man at Agriprocessors but declined to identify the individual. He did confirm agents were at the plant Tuesday evening.
Federal officials arrested nearly 400 of the plant's workers during an immigration raid in May, and the former plant manager was arrested last week. Other officials including supervisors and human resources workers also face federal immigration charges.
Government fines proposed against Agriprocessors total in the tens of millions of dollars. At least four companies have filed lawsuits against Agriprocessors, and Alliant Energy has received a power disconnection notice because of unpaid bills.
