CLARKSVILLE - The Iowa Board of Medicine has filed disciplinary charges against a doctor who formerly practiced in Clarksville.
James Ross, 55, is accused of being disciplined in Virginia, engaging in unprofessional conduct and receiving a felony conviction.
Authorities arrested Ross on Jan. 17, 2007, in Virginia for unlawfully distributing OxyContin, a controlled substance, without a legitimate medical purpose. Ross allegedly exchanged the OxyContin, a powerful painkiller, with a police informant for what he believed was crack cocaine.
In April of that year, Ross pleaded guilty to one count of illegally distributing a schedule III controlled substance and agreed to voluntarily surrender his controlled substance privileges to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. He also agree to permanently surrender his Virginia medical license and to never practice medicine again.
A hearing with the Iowa Board of Medicine is scheduled March 10.
