WATERLOO - A West High School student who was expelled last fall after assaulting a classmate and injuring two faculty members appeared before the Board of Education in a closed session Tuesday.
The hearing was the final condition the student had to complete before returning to a regular school setting. The board met in closed session for a hour and 40 minutes before adjourning. No action was required by the board.
Waterloo Community Schools does not reveal identities of students who are expelled. However, police took Kyle Mason Andrews into custody Sept. 25 - the day of the incident for which the student was expelled - after assaulting Paris Anding.
Before appearing in front of the board, Andrews was required to complete all terms required by juvenile court, be placed in an alternative educational setting, successfully participate in the Four Oaks program and an anger-management program and have a psychological evaluation to determine if a return to a regular school setting is appropriate.
