CEDAR FALLS - Several people were detained by Cedar Falls police early today after a reported hit-and-run accident in Waterloo.

No one was injured in the incident. Police stopped two vehicles, a Chrysler PT Cruiser and a Plymouth Breeze, outside an apartment building at 725 Maplewood Drive about 6:15 a.m.

Waterloo police received a call about a hit-and-run accident near Lincoln Elementary in the Greenbrier area shortly after 6 a.m. One of the parties involved followed the other vehicle while on the phone to police. Cedar Falls police responded when the drivers entered the city limits.

Cedar Falls Lt. Kelli Head said further information was received that one of the individuals involved in the accident had a gun.

Both cars were stopped at 725 Maplewood Drive near the College Square Mall. Police were at the mall providing extra security for early morning shoppers.

"Fortunately we ended up being close," said Lt. Marty Beckner of the Cedar Falls police Department.

No arrests had been made in the incident as of 7 a.m. The incident still is under investigation by the Cedar Falls and Waterloo Police Departments.

Head said no gun was located.

There were no injuries in the incident.
