INDEPENDENCE -- A hearing next week for a Coralville woman accused of killing her 2-year-old son and injuring another son likely will be canceled.
Michelle Kehoe is charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and child endangerment resulting in serious injury. Kehoe is accused of taping her sons' eyes closed and cutting their necks with a knife near a remote pond outside of Littleton on Oct. 26. Two-year-old Seth died. Sean, her 7-year-old, is recovering from his wounds.
Kehoe was arrested Saturday and transported to the Buchanan County Jail after she was released from the University of Iowa Hospitals.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 25. The hearing is used by judges to determine if there enough evidence to present formal charges against a defendant. The hearing will be cancelled if prosecutors file written trial information, which includes the same evidence, for the judge, said County Attorney Allan Vander Hart said.
Vander Hart said he plans on filing trial information soon.
Kehoe is being held on a $2.5 million bond. No formal trial date has been scheduled.
