WATERLOO - A public hearing is scheduled Monday on whether to rezone property for a child care business on Brookeridge Drive.

Waterloo City Council members, as part of a short agenda, will consider the request from Robert Fischels to rezone the former clothing store and Sylvan Learning Center at 209 Brookeridge from commercial to multifamily residential, or R-4.

The property had been in an R-4 zone before 1994 when it was conditionally zoned for commercial use to allow for the women's clothing retail store. That store no longer exists in the building, so the owner has requested it be downzoned.

The city's Planning, Programming and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the request.

Other scheduled council business includes:

Approving the purchase of a single-axle dump truck from Harrison Truck Center of Elk Run Heights for $83,163 and of an ambulance chassis, also from Harrison Truck Center, for $72,800.

Agreements with The Rose of Waterloo allowing the assisted living center's decorative pillars to encroach onto public right-of-way along Mulberry and Utica streets, while the Rose allows the city's sidewalk to encroach upon its property.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers on the second floor of City Hall. Committee meetings include Public Safety, 4:55 p.m., and Finance, 5 p.m.
