CEDAR FALLS - The two big Target distribution centers in the Cedar Falls Industrial Park seem to be spawning more growth in the park.

On Monday the City Council approved a development agreement that will pave the way for trucking company Brown NationaLease, a Des Moines-based trucking company, for a new facility in the industrial park west of the two Target facilities.

In April, Ruan Trucking broke ground on a new facility in the same area.

"I think what you see is a lot of companies drawn close to both Target facilities out there," said Ron Gaines, director of developmental services.

The agreement approved Monday is with Transcredit L.C., a real estate holding company for Brown. Under the agreement, the company would receive 1.32 acres of land free, but pay $235,800 for the remaining 3.6 acres of the site. No other financial incentives would be provided by the city.

The company plans a 7,225-square-foot building valued at least $1.1 million. The building is expected to get started this summer.

Brown NationaLease specializes in delivering food service products, with Martin Brothers being its largest local customer. The company's primary business is leasing trucks and trailers, so customers provide only drivers and insurance.

The company currently leases a 3,500-square-feet facility on Nordic Drive.

Ruan's project was a $2 million project.
