WAVERLY - Three Lutheran pastors from West Virginia will pass through Northeast Iowa this week as part of a 13,000-mile "Tour de Revs."
They hope to raise awareness about world hunger and are traveling with a custom, three-person bamboo bike. Plans call for visiting each of the 65 synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
The trio will visit a Camp Noah event at noon Wednesday in Postville. At 3 p.m., the pastors will arrive in Plainfield and then bike to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly.
Redeemer and the Lutheran Youth Organization will sponsor a family event at 5 p.m., featuring volleyball, an inflatable jumping house, games and dunk tank. The bike also will be on display.
Hot dogs, chips and smores will be available from 5:20 to 6 p.m. A praise band will perform, and the pastors will give a presentation. Donations will be accepted.
The group will have breakfast at 8 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg.
