WATERLOO - Hawkeye Community College's vice president of academic affairs is one of five finalists for president of South Arkansas Community College in El Dorado, Ark.

Linda Allen was among seven semifinalists named by the college's board May 19, according to a story in the El Dorado News-Times. On Wednesday, the board named her as one of five finalists following an executive session.

Allen declined to comment on her candidacy for the position. She and other finalists will be invited to visit the college over the next two weeks, according to the El Dorado News-Times. The college has about 1,300 students.

Other finalists for the job include Barbara Jones, dean of instruction at Louisiana Delta Community College in Monroe, La.; Jeremy McMillen, associate vice president of instruction and academic education at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas; Johnny Moore, vice president of student affairs at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Fla.; and Joseph Shannon, dean of instruction at Panola College in Carthage, Texas.

Allen came to Hawkeye in January 2006. Prior to that, she had been the executive dean of arts and humanities at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.
