WATERLOO - Engines revved as area residents tested tractor horsepower during the Old Time Power Show's fun pull Friday evening.
For $5 a pop, drivers hooked up their machines to see how far they could drag the sled down the 300-foot dirt track at Antique Acres.
Doug Stewart, of Cedar Falls, tried out his 1962 Oliver 1859 Diesel as part of a wager with a friend.
It was his first pull.
"I'm a rookie," Stewart said.
Both Stewart and his buddy went the entire length of the track on their first passes and got back in line to do it again.
Wayne Stoddard of Waverly put his 1958 Allis Chalmers HD-5 Diesel crawler to the test.
The orange bulldozer moves on tank-like tracks, which helped Stoddard pull the sled.
"You get so much traction with the tracks," he said.
Stoddard bought the crawler a few years ago and replaced the axles and overhauled the engine. When he isn't showing it off, it earns its keep on the farm like all his other equipment.
"I paint them up, but they get used," Stoddard said. "Whenever we got something we got to pick up, that does it."
In the crowd, Dan Steffen of Dunkerton watched the pull with his grandchildren. For the past three or four years, the Old Time Power Show has been a regular summer event for his family.
"It's nice to see the different equipment. I grew up on a farm," Steffen said, watching from his parked golf cart.
"I love this place," said grandson, Gage Wilson.
This year's show was the first time Gage's friend, 14-year-old Kenny Fettkether, got to show off his own tractor. He exhibited a 1972 Case 970, which is just like the one his father, Jim, used to own.
"It's a good tractor," said Kenny Fettkether, who wants to collect Case tractors when he gets older.
The fun pull preceded the main attraction, which was the steam-powered tractor pull after sundown.
The show, located at 7610 Waverly Road, Cedar Falls, continues through Sunday with daily parades daily at 4 p.m. A hot rod pull is 11 a.m. Sunday.
Admission is $6 per day, ages 12 and under are free.
