EARLIER STORY

WATERLOO - Three people were taken to the hospital following a Monday night shooting in Waterloo.

The identities of the victims weren't immediately available, but neighbors and family members said one is a 15-year-old boy.

The shots rang out shortly after 6 p.m. in the 900 block of West Third Street.

Emergency officials found the 15-year-old and a second victim on the ground in a lot where a roofing trailer was parked next to 909 W. Third St.

The third victim, who was bleeding from what appeared to be a chest wound, was sitting up on the curb and talking with police and paramedics.

Paramedics took all three away on stretchers.

The 15-year-old appeared to be conscious as he was loaded into an ambulance.

Residents said the neighborhood is the scene of frequent violence.

"This used to be peaceful, People could come outside, and kids could ride their bikes," said Paulette Ivy, a 10-year resident.

"This is crazy. This doesn't make sense," Ivy said.

Ivy said she heard the gunshots and ran outside to make sure her own children were OK.

A woman who lives on Allen Street next to the scene said she awoke to gunfire.

"They were shooting right outside my window," she said. She saw three males running from the area.

Jennifer Lockhart said this is the second shooting in the two or so months since she moved to the area.

In May, Trevell McCoy, 25, of Waterloo, was shot about a block away at the intersection of West Second and Allen streets.
