FAYETTE, Miss. (AP) - A Waterloo man has been sentenced in southwest Mississippi on three counts of felony child desertion.

Jefferson County Circuit Judge Lamar Pickard sentenced Giraud Parker Jr. on Monday to a five-year sentence in state prison and ordered him to pay $12,000 in back child support, plus court costs and fees.

Parker pleaded guilty in November, but Pickard delayed sentencing in order to allow Parker time to come up with the money.

Attorney General Jim Hood's office prosecuted Parker.

CORRECTION:

Giraud Parker Jr. no longer lives in Iowa, according to a letter from a Parker relative, who said he left the state in 2008 and returned to Mississippi. The Courier used an Associated Press report on the matter, which listed Parker as a Waterloo resident. A press release by the Mississippi Attorney General's Office listed Parker's address as 5454 Poplar Hill Road, Waterloo, IA 50730. Waterloo doesn't have a Poplar Hill Road, but the town of Fayette, Miss., has such an address. The 50730 ZIP code doesn't exist, according to the United States Postal Service Web site.
