WATERLOO - Waterloo police have arrested a man in connection with a motel stickup that happened in January during a months-long series of robberies.
Tramarus Deontae Dixon, 18, of 622 Boston Ave., was arrested on charges of first-degree robbery Wednesday on Charles Street.
Police said two men entered the Motel 6 at 2343 Logan Ave. about 10:19 p.m. Jan. 25 and hit an employee in the head with a handgun.
No one else has been arrested in connection with this crime, said Capt. Tim Pillack with the Waterloo Police Department, although Dixon was earlier arrested in a store robbery that happened four days before the motel was hit.
According to court records, the employee at Motel 6 told police he handed over money from the cash drawer. The bandits demanded to get inside the safe and then assaulted him.
The robbers grabbed a series of colored bank bags and ran off, court records state.
A witness told police he noticed a car parked on Ralston Road at Logan Avenue at the time of the heist and saw two people run to the vehicle and drive off.
Police found tire tracks and a fast-food cup where the vehicle had been parked. Red and blue cloth used to hide the robbers' identities was located nearby.
A Waterloo police officer found a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville that matched the description of the getaway car parked at 4039 Niles St. a short time later and discovered a black semi-automatic handgun on the back seat.
Dixon was one of the people inside the Niles Street house, according to court records.
Officers searched the area and found stolen bank bags in a garbage can next to the house, records state.
This is the second time Dixon has been arrested in connection with a January robbery.
Police arrested him in April in connection with a Jan. 21 holdup at the 5 Star Snacks & More convenience store at 315 Fletcher Ave.
In that case, investigators linked DNA found on a cloth used to cover one of the robber's faces to Dixon, according to court records. He is still awaiting trial on that charge.
