- Cedar Valley Farmers' Market at Crossroads Center is open from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at Crossroads Center lower level by J.C. Penney's.
- The University Avenue Farmers' Market in the parking lot of the University Avenue Hy-Vee is open from 4 to 7 p.m.
- Final Thursday Reading Series starts at 7:15 p.m. with open mike at the Hearst Center for the Arts, 304 W. Seerley Blvd., Cedar Falls. The featured reader starts at 8 p.m.
- The college football season opens tonight with South Dakota State play the Iowa State Cyclones at 7 p.m. in Ames. Upper Iowa plays at Drake University at 6 p.m.
