NEWTON - Stephen August Mayerchak, an inmate assigned to the Newton Correctional Facility, died Wednesday at University Hospitals in Iowa City of natural causes from colon cancer, prison officials said.

Mayerchak , 44, was serving a 10-year sentence from Dallas County for prohibited acts-possession (2 counts) and prohibited acts-manufacturing/delivery-methamphetamine.

The sentence began March 6, 2008.
