DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - An Osceola woman accused of running an international Internet chat room that transmitted live images of child molestation will remain in jail for a while.
Lisa Winebrenner, 36, appeared before a federal judge Friday in Des Moines and was ordered held without bond.
She is among 27 people arrested in several countries after an international crackdown on the chat room "Kiddiepics & Kiddievids," which specialized in child porn.
Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales was in Chicago on Tuesday for a news conference to announce that the chat room had been infiltrated by investigators and its members were arrested.
Gonzales said the crackdown began with an arrest by Canadian law enforcement officials in Edmonton, Alberta. Suspects were arrested in the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Australia.
Winebrenner, who used the screen name "Humble Duchess" in the chat room, sobbed quietly after federal Magistrate Judge Ross Walters refused to free her from jail.
Walters said he had no assurances Winebrenner would not return to child porn because she had devoted so much time to the chat room.
Federal authorities say Winebrenner was involved with "Kiddiepics & Kiddievids" for roughly three years and was the chat room's main host in the days before her arrest.
She is expected to be brought to Chicago later to answer to charges of conspiracy to possess, receive, solicit and distribute child pornography.
Other defendants charged in the indictment include Brian Annoreno, 29, of Bartlett, Ill., and Gregory Sweezer, 48, of Aurora, Ill. The men pleaded not guilty at a hearing Friday in Chicago.
Annoreno appeared with his head shaven and in the bright orange jumpsuit of a federal prisoner. He has been in custody since his arrest in January. Annoreno, who used the screen name "Acidburn," is accused of transmitting live images of a child being molested to a viewer in Edmonton.
Sweezer was released Tuesday on a $30,000 bond. He pleaded not guilty and left the courthouse with his attorney.
U.S. District Judge Mark Filip has set a status hearing in the case for March 31.
