LA PORTE CITY - A La Porte City man was taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City Thursday night after being run over by a tractor. A second La Porte City man collapsed during the incident and he also was hospitalized.

Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office responded to a call that a tractor had rolled over a man in the 14000 block of Kober Road shortly after 3 p.m.

Darryl McFarland, 65, of 600 First St., La Porte City, had been attempting to unhook an implement from the tractor when it apparently slipped out of gear and rolled over him, a press release from the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office stated.

McFarland was transported to Covenant Hospital by Air Care and then transferred to the University of Iowa Hospital a short time later.

Dennis Kahler, 62, of 1551 51st St., La Porte City, was present during the time of the accident. He collapsed shortly after the accident and was transported to Allen Hospital.

The condition of the two men hasn't been released.

The La Porte City Police Department, La Porte City Fire and Ambulance crews, Covenant Ambulance and Covenant Air Care assisted the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office with the incident.
