WATERLOO - A Waterloo father and two of his children died Wednesday afternoon when a semitrailer plowed into their minivan in Minnesota.

Family members and the Minnesota State Patrol identified the dead as Soubinh Khemphomma, 46, his son, Bambi, 13, and daughter Christi, 11.

The children had been staying with relatives in Minnesota, and the father traveled north of return them home for the first day of school, said the mother, Bouakham Khemphomma, who remained home.

The accident happened at about 2:37 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 90 in Freeborn County.

According to Minnesota authorities, a Toyota passenger car driven by Gloria Anderson, 62, of St. Charles, Ill., was headed east in a construction zone and veered over the center line into the westbound lane.

Anderson's vehicle hit a westbound semitrailer driven by Randy Pedersen, 56, of Swaledale, Iowa. The semi then crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with the Khemphommas' Honda mini van, according to the state patrol.

Anderson also was killed, but the truck driver wasn't injured.

ALBERT LEA, Minn. - A three-vehicle crash near Albert Lea, Minn., killed two children and two adults Wednesday.

Three of the victims, including the children were Waterloo residents.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol report, a semi swerved into the eastbound lane after Gloria Anderson, 62, of St. Charles, Ill., crossed the center line in a construction zone on Interstate 90 in Minnesota.

The semi driver, Randy Pedersen of Swaledale, collided with a van that Bambi Khemphomma, 13, and Christi L. Khemphomma, 11, were riding in.

The children, along with their father who was driving the van, 46-year-old Soubinh Khemphomma, were killed.

Anderson also died in the wreck.

Pedersen, the semi driver, was not injured.
