ALDEN - A 79-year-old Hazleton man has been identified as the fatality in a crash in Hardin County Friday morning where a vehicle went into a pond.
Donald Schoentag was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
Dive teams were called in to bring out a vehicle and body from a pond off Highway 20 near Alden.
Iowa State Patrol troopers said the vehicle, a 2007 Chryslar Sebring was eastbound on Highway 20 about 11 a.m. in the right lane near mile marker 160 when the vehicle suddenly veered into the south ditch and entered a pond.
Hardin County officials were assisted by the Buckeye Rescus, Iowa Falls Rescue, Iowa Falls Fire, Story County Dive Team and the Waterloo Rescue Dive Team.
