DES MOINES (AP) - Des Moines police say a man is facing charges after taking off in a relative's car with children inside.

Dustin Purscell of Des Moines is charged with two counts of child endangerment, second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief. The 26-year-old was being held at the Polk County Jail on $16,000 bond.

Authorities say Ashley Purscell was called to pick up Dustin Purscell from a bar. When she arrived and told him he couldn't ride with her because he was too drunk and angry, police say Dustin Purscell tried to take off in her car.

Authorities say Ashley Purscell's 5-year-old daughter was able to jump from the car and get to her mother, but a 7-year-old boy in the car was unable to unbuckle himself and get out.

Police say Dustin Purscell was later arrested at his apartment. It was unclear what he relationship is to Ashley Purscell.
