CEDAR FALLS - Iowa Public Radio broadcasts are off the air in eastern Iowa, likely until Monday, because of a transmission line problem.
The station, 90.9 FM, experienced a transmission line failure early Saturday and returned to the air at low power for the remainder of the weekend. However, the line failed completely early Monday and the station has been off the air since then.
Due to the damage to 90.9 FM, repeater stations receiving their signal from 90.9 FM including 94.5 FM and 102.1 FM in the Quad-Cities are also currently off the air.
Wayne Jarvis, director of network operations, said the 1,700-foot-tall transmission tower located between Cedar Rapids and Waterloo has a 200-foot burnout on the transmission line about 1,000 feet in the air. Crews were not able to work in Wednesday's weather conditions but will be there Thursday and expect repairs to take two to three days.
The 90.9 FM programming continues to be available via online stream.
