DES MOINES - A Muscatine teen has been fined more than $4,000 after he pleaded guilty to 34 charges of illegal waterfowl hunting.
Tyler A. Wilson, 19, originally faced 75 charges in Louisa County but reached a plea agreement to reduce the number of charges against him, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Wilson pleaded guilty to five counts each of hunting without a valid license, hunting without the wildlife habitat fee, hunting ducks without the state migratory bird fee and hunting ducks without a federal duck stamp. The violations occurred at a private hunting area in Louisa County during the early Iowa duck hunting season last September.
He also pleaded guilty to 14 additional charges in connection with hunting violations at the Lake Odessa Public Hunting Area in Louisa County on three different dates last November.
Wilson was also found guilty of an additional charge of having a loaded shotgun in a motor vehicle on a public highway in Muscatine County on December 15, 2008. Wilson's hunting privileges were suspended last year for hunting violations in Louisa County in 2007 and 2008, and he now faces an additional license suspension for 17 years.
The DNR agreed to return Wilson's boat and trailer, which were seized by a conservation officer last November, as part of the agreement, but a 12-gauge shotgun, ammunition, duck decoys, duck calls and other items were condemned and forfeited to the DNR.
