ELDORA - A woman waiting for assistance for a stalled vehicle started a fire in a waste receptacle in the women's restroom of the Hardin County Law Enforcement Center in Eldora Friday, Sheriff Tim Smith said.

Tanya Renee McGrew, 34, of Eldora, was charged with first-degree arson, assault on a police officer and interference with official acts. She was being held later Friday in the Harkdin County Jail awaiting a court appearance.

Eldora police said the incident occurred about 5 a.m. Friday when the Eldora Fire Department and police officers were called to the building when the fire control system triggered the alarm. Corrections officer Mark Mannater extinguished the fire and removed the receptable from the building.

There were 74 detainees and five staff occupying the building at the time of the fire, police said. Evacuation procedures were initiated, but not necessary as staff members and emergency responders quickly gained control of the situation, Smith said said.

There were no injuries and only minor damage was done to the building.
