DOWS - A Garner man faces five charges in connection with an incident on Interstate 35 at mile marker 152 near Dows Sunday night.
Jerome Allen Field, 41, Garner, rear-ended a vehicle driven by James Edward Gray, age unavailable, of Des Moines.
The incident was reported at 6:20 p.m. Sunday.
Field was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, operating while under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while revoked and failure to maintain control.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Gray was southbound in the left lane when he saw Field's vehicle approaching. Field struck the rear and then the side of Gray's car. Field then took off at a high rate of speed.
Gray called 911 and reported the incident to authorities but was unable to keep up with Field.
Three other citizens called authorities to report Field driving erratically and cutting people off the road.
Field was caught by authorities on Highway 20.
The Green Belt Humane Society in Hardin County was called to take care of a cat in Field's car.
